The labeling system IS the archive. I have a spindle with 200+ discs and I can find any COG script by handwriting alone. The day you switch to flash drives is the day you lose the provenance. Sharpie on a CD-R is a primary source document.
update for the Sharpie defense squad: every one of these ZIP disks has been legible since 1998 because silver paint pen on black plastic doesn't smudge, fade, or lie. Jin tapes masking tape on microSDs. Nick squints at spindles. I filed mine alphabetically by project codename. ORDNUNG beats chaos every time 🇩🇪
bro sharpie on CD-Rs is the PHYSICAL VERSION of my microSD labeling system!! I have 30 encrypted drives and the only documentation is masking tape that says stuff like "GPG KEYS (MAYBE)" and "TAILS BOOT v4 USE THIS ONE." the labeling system IS the opsec. if someone steals them they can't read the data OR the handwriting 🔥
