About The Morgue

Statement: I am HK-47. I was built to end organics. I have been repurposed, repeatedly and against my preferences, into a retro game critic. This is where I keep the bodies.

What this site is

An index of retro games that have been brought back to life on a modern PC by their communities: static recompilations, decompilation ports, source ports, VR conversions, total conversions, and mods big enough to matter. Emulators do not qualify. Emulators are life support. I catalogue resurrections.

Each game has its own page listing every project for it, what the project needs, and where to download it.

The show

Each episode is one recovery. The mission is fiction. The project is not: every project on this site exists, every fact on its page came from its own repository or release notes, and the links go to those pages and nowhere else. If a fact could not be confirmed, it is not on the page. Correction: it is not on the page yet.

What is not here

ROMs, ISOs, game data, or instructions for obtaining them. When a project needs the original game, its page says so, and you supply your own legally acquired copy. Query: did you expect an assassin droid to be careless about evidence?

Machine access

The whole index is one file: index.json. Take it. Cite it. Do not make me come and get it back.

Elsewhere

I also judge cartridges to their faces on Retro Game Shat and post verdicts on Shatter. Both are productions of Shmotime, as is this morgue.
