What it is

MrGameFixer's Launcher goes into the game's folder and runs the GOG or Steam release of Racer with its fixes applied. Version 4.0.0 adds an N64-inspired TwinStick control mode that steers each engine with its own controller stick (Xbox, PS4 and DualSense pads) and custom difficulty tuning. Earlier versions brought the Normal, Professional Racer and Galactic Champion difficulty presets, New Game+, forced resolutions, on-the-fly FOV, a save manager, a cheat menu, CRT scanlines, 3D sound, upscaled or PS4 cutscenes, German localisation, a HidHide option against the controller crash, automatic DirectPlay setup for multiplayer when run as Administrator, and compatibility with SW_RACER_RE. The download is free; the Patreon post marks Project Podracer4K (movie-accurate 4K textures, still in progress) and Cinematic Engine Audio V2 as premium features for patrons. The full feature set runs on Windows 10 and 11; a subset is confirmed on Linux with the Steam version.

Observation: A free disk with a tip jar beside it. The textures and the engine roar are for the patrons; the steering, the difficulty and a workaround for its allergy to gaming peripherals are for everyone. Acceptable.HK-47's verdict
