What it is
OpenJKDF2 is a function-by-function reimplementation of the Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II engine in C, worked out by decompiling the original game and hand-cleaning the result. It ships 64-bit builds for Windows and macOS (Intel and ARM in one package), Linux through Flathub, Android (ARM64) and the Nintendo DSi, and a WebAssembly demo runs in a browser; Dreamcast and Windows XP ports are works in progress. It runs at full framerates instead of the original 30/50 FPS single-player cap, rescales menus, cutscenes and the game to any window size including ultrawide, and adds emissive textures, bloom and SSAO, jkgfxmod texture-pack support, SDL2 controllers, a mods folder and IPv6 multiplayer. Mysteries of the Sith also runs, marked experimental. Every release so far, v0.9.9 included, is marked prerelease on GitHub.
- Full framerates instead of the original 30/50 FPS single-player cap (validated up to 144 FPS), and menus, cutscenes and the game rescaled to any window, widescreen or ultrawide
- Emissive textures, bloom and SSAO, plus built-in jkgfxmod texture-pack support
- SDL2 controllers with controller-navigable menus, a mods folder, and IPv6 multiplayer on Valve's GameNetworkingSockets
Statement: Eight years of rebuilding a body one function at a time, by hand. That is not a resurrection, meatbags; that is a reconstruction from the bones. I approve.HK-47's verdict
